L' Egypte violant les accords signés en 1956 après la campagne du Sinaï, Israël usa de son droit de légitime défense en déclenchant une attaque préventive le 5 juin 1967 contre l'Egypte, et répondant à l'agression Jordanienne en expulsant les forces Syriennes du plateau du Golan...
Le 6 juin, l'armée Egyptienne abandonne la moitié du plateau du Sinai avant de s'effondrer totalement le lendemain, l'armée paniquant et fuyant. L'aviation Israélienne intervient massivement contre les Jordaniens qui se replient de Cisjordanie et de Jérusalem. Les Syriens s'effondrent également et sont repoussés vers Damas. Les Israéliens vont détruire et récupérer un grand nombre de véhicules dont certains intacts...
Les brigades blindées Israéliennes étaient composées essentiellement de M48 PATTON & de CENTURION modernisés, alors que dans les brigades mécanisées, l'infanterie sur M3 & M113 disposait de l'appui de SHERMAN M50 & M51...
Les M51 que certains estimaient totalement périmés face aux T55 & T62 Egyptiens plus modernes, se comportèrent brillamment sur deux front, particulièrement sur les hauteurs du Golan. Ce Sherman reçut le canon français de l'AMX 13 de 105mm raccourcit de 1,50m dans une tourelle de 76mm de M4 A1 plus grande que celle du M4 normal. Cette solution nécessita outre un contrepoids de tourelle plus important, la production de munitions adaptées. Un nouveau moteur Cummins de 460cv. D'autres modifications particulières furent apportées : écoutilles pivotant horizontalement, amélioration du stockage des munitions, élimination de l'encombrant chargeur de batteries et son remplacement par une dynamo Paris-Rhône, projecteur à lumière blanche et infrarouge, lance-fumigène. Tout cela donna un poids en ordre de combat de 39 tonnes (sept de plus que le modèle original). Malgré sa silhouette relativement haute, caractéristique du Sherman, c'était un blindé efficace. Il atteignait une vitesse de 45 k/heure pour une autonomie de 270 km - c'est-à-dire plus que les modèles précédents...
Les maquettes. Le porte-chars Mack vient de chez Monogram. Le modèle en Snap-tite (maquette à encliquer sans colle) à été modifié. Les roues sont des résines. La remorque est créée en "scratch" d'après un plan d'un des livres édité par François Verlinden. Le T55 Tamiya a lui aussi été retravaillé, des détails ajoutés sur la caisse et la tourelle, l'intérieur refait. La jeep M38 de la marque Skybow a été transformée en version israélienne...
Le vieux Centurion de Tamiya a reçu des améliorations dont un canon de 105mm. Le sherman M51 est équipé d'une tourelle résine Verlinden, la caisse vient de MP Models. Le half-track M3 A2 de Tamiya est lui aussi modifié en version israélienne ainsi que le Patton M48...

On June 6, the Egyptian army abandoned half of the Sinai plateau before collapsing completely the next day, the army panicking and fleeing. The Israeli air force intervened massively against the Jordanians, who withdrew from the West Bank and Jerusalem. The Syrians also collapsed and were pushed back towards Damascus. The Israelis destroy and recover a large number of vehicles, some of them intact...
The Israeli armored brigades were mainly composed of modernized M48 PATTON & CENTURION, while in the mechanized brigades, the infantry on M3 & M113 were supported by SHERMAN M50 & M51...
The M51s, which some considered totally outdated in the face of the more modern Egyptian T55 & T62, performed brilliantly on two fronts, particularly in the Golan Heights. This Sherman was fitted with the French AMX 13 105mm gun, shortened by 1.50m, in a larger 76mm M4 A1 turret than the normal M4. In addition to a larger turret counterweight, this solution required the production of suitable ammunition. A new 460hp Cummins engine. Other special modifications included horizontally pivoting hatches, improved ammunition storage, the elimination of the cumbersome battery charger and its replacement by a Paris-Rhône dynamo, a white-light and infrared searchlight, and a smoke launcher. All this resulted in a combat weight of 39 tonnes (seven tonnes more than the original model). Despite its relatively tall silhouette, characteristic of the Sherman, it was an efficient armored vehicle. It reached a speed of 45 kph, with a range of 270 km - more than previous models...
Models. The Mack tank carrier comes from Monogram. The Snap-tite model has been modified. The wheels are resin. The trailer is scratchbuilt from a drawing in one of François Verlinden's books. The Tamiya T55 was also reworked, with details added to the body and turret, and the interior redone. Skybow's M38 jeep was transformed into an Israeli version...
Tamiya's old Centurion has been upgraded with a 105mm cannon. The M51 sherman is fitted with a Verlinden resin turret, the body comes from MP Models. Tamiya's M3 A2 half-track is also modified as an Israeli version, as is the Patton M48...
