River Patrol Boat (PBR)

Envoyées  au Vietnam en mars 1966 jusqu'à la fin de la guerre en 1971, ces vedettes légères modifiées à partir d’embarcations civiles, sillonnaient les rivières et pouvaient contrôlaient et intervenir à tous moments. C’était un bateau polyvalent avec une coque en fibre de verre et au mode de propulsion hydrojet  lui permettant d’opérer en eaux peu profondes, souvent boueuses dans le delta. Très rapide mais également facilement maniable, elle pouvait se faufiler partout grâce à son mode de propulsion...

Fabriqué en deux versions - d’un poids de 8 tonnes, il pouvait être hélitreuillé par un hélicoptère Huey - la première le Mark I, avec une longueur de 9,45 m. Puis le Mark II de 9,8 m amélioré pour réduire les risque d’encrassement et avec des bords en aluminium pour plus de résistance. Vitesse entre 45 et 50 km/h, d’un tirant d’eau de 0,76m...

L’équipage se composait de 4 à 5 hommes avec un armement de deux mitrailleuses de 7,62mm et deux de 12,7mm...
